Lucretia Thornton, a licensed attorney and registered nurse, focuses her practice on healthcare and other medical practice related matters. Ms. Thornton has been working in the health care industry for many years, having started her career as a medical caseworker, then supervisor for multiple medical programs involving child welfare, for the Lake County Department of Public Welfare.
Prior to joining Hoeppner Wagner & Evans in 2005, Ms. Thornton was risk manager and hospital attorney for the North Lake and South Lake campuses of Methodist Hospital, where she handled all aspects of hospital law, including insurance, financial and reimbursement issues, risk management, and medical chart/mortality review. Before moving into the risk management and legal arenas, she served as a medical surgical and oncology nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, a geriatric care nurse at Ross Care Center, and a psychiatric nurse for acutely mentally ill patients at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Dyer.
In addition to her professional association activities, Ms. Thornton is active on the Purdue University Nursing Advisory Board, and for years has participated in the Valparaiso University School of Law extern program. She is a well-known speaker who has presented numerous programs on medical malpractice and workers' compensation topics, as well as other health care related programs involving Indiana health care consent law, to various community groups as well as medical and nursing staff.
