Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice
Hoeppner Wagner & Evans maintains a very active practice in the field of mediation, arbitration and dispute resolution. Many members of our firm serve as mediators and arbitrators in various types of civil disputes. Both of our offices in Valparaiso and Merrillville are well-suited for conducting mediations and arbitrations.
Mediation. As our court system seeks to find more effective and timely ways to handle and resolve disputes, mediation is becoming a very useful tool. In the mediation environment, the parties involved are empowered to make decisions, as opposed to dealing with third-party decision makers in the form of a judge or jury. A neutral third party — a mediator — helps the parties reach an agreement. Comparing the cost of mediation to a trial, parties opting for mediation have an opportunity to resolve their issues in one day, greatly reducing the cost of their dispute resolution. Our firm has been involved in more than 3,000 mediation matters.
Arbitration. Many persons would rather have their disputes decided in a less formal, less expensive, and more private manner than litigation. These parties often utilize arbitration as an alternative. In an arbitration, the parties submit their dispute to a private attorney or arbitrator who renders a decision. Members of our firm have served as civil arbitrators in hundreds of cases.
