Ms. Ackerman, who is located in the firm's Valparaiso office, focuses her practice on estate, trust, gift and tax planning, probate administration, entity formation and business law, and family law. She joined Hoeppner Wagner & Evans in 2008, after practicing law in Michigan at her own firm. Before going into private practice, Ms. Ackerman worked with Deloitte & Touche as a tax consultant. She then went on to practice law with two Michigan estate planning firms before forming her own firm in 2002.

Ms. Ackerman has been an active participant and leader in a number of bar organizations. She served as the Chair of the 2002 Gubernatorial Debate Committee of the Women's Bar Association Oakland County Chapter. She served as Vice Chair of the Youth Law Day Committee and New Lawyers Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association. She also was a Council Member of the Law-Related Education (LRE) Committee and Alimony Guidelines Committee of the State Bar of Michigan. Ms. Ackerman has published articles on family law and estate planning topics and was a monthly featured speaker for "Ask the Attorney" a Michigan radio show on family law, probate and estate planning issues.
